7 Little Known Reasons Why Your Content Marketing Campaign Fails

My content marketing campaign has bombed!!!

Well, you are not alone here. A lot of companies/brands  fail miserably at content marketing – and they even don’t know why they are failing.

Today; majority of the businesses uses content marketing and yet most of them fail. 92% of B2B SMALL BUSINESSES uses content marketing.

And how many of these small businesses are successful at content marketing? Not many. In fact, even they don’t think they’re successful.

Only 12% of B2B marketers rate their organization as “very effective” at content marketing. Phew!!! That’s not a good stat.

Your first priority in content marketing isn’t writing the content or even deciding who will be responsible for creating it. It’s understanding what your goals are for that content.

These might include:

  • Generating new leads
  • Increasing traffic to your website
  • Building brand awareness
  • Establishing leadership
  • Increasing opportunities for speaking

These goals should then be used to identify the medium that will be most effective for you.

Reasons Why Companies Are Failing Miserably at Content Marketing Campaign

You Lack Content Strategy

When creating your content strategy, look at which of your competitors have already been successful.

Why has their content been successful? Evaluate that.

Where have they shared their content? Know what is the reasons behind they are posting on specific social media platforms only

Who all are sharing their content? Understand their targeted audience

Your success in content marketing has everything to do with creating a strategy and delivering on your objectives.

Not Investing Enough Time Into Planning Your Content Strategies

Understand having a right content marketing strategy is important however; you don’t have to spend your all marketing budget on it. Just you have to invest good amount of time in figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Content marketing is one of the cost-effective option when compared to other marketing channels. And, believe it; the content marketing campaigns have got all the potentials to generate success – Only If You Do It Properly.

Content marketing is here to stay. On an average, B2B companies spend 35% of their marketing budget on content.

When you’re deciding what to invest in content marketing, just remember that you should get what you are paying for. If your content marketing is not able to return your investment; there’s some loop hole in the strategy hence; your budget goes haywire.

Boring Content – Another Major Reason

If you are posting boring content; it’s obvious you are not getting any hits, views or engagement let alone generate leads. Having interactive, actionable content is what it makes your content marketing successful. It is important to produce interactive content for your viewers.

There are several reasons why businesses create boring content.

  • They hired an inexpensive or inexperienced writer.
  • They don’t know what kind of content to create for their business.
  • The content is flat out boring.
  • They don’t understand their target audience.

Quality content can make the difference between content marketing success and failure. This is definitely a case of quality over quantity, as well.

You Are Just Posting But Not Promoting

Creating content and then simply publishing it on your blog and calling it a day is about as effective as not creating the content.

Promotion is the major component of content marketing. When it comes to promoting a piece of content which you’ve just launched, you need a plan. You need to know who you’re targeting, by what method, and what the expected outcome is.

There’s no denying this will always be the backbone of any campaign, it’s important to go beyond this.Take the time to get innovative with your content promotion strategy. Never be afraid to try something new.

You Are Promoting Your Content To The Wrong People

When you chalk out your content marketing strategy, you need to know which is your target audience.

Who you are writing for; what kind of information / products and services they are looking for, how your post can be helpful to them and most importantly will they be interested in liking and sharing your content ahead?

If you lack the basic thing of not knowing who is your target audience; you content strategy is lacking the major backbone.

You should know your target customer’s age, income, gender, spending habits, and anything else that might become relevant.

You Think SEO Is Not Important

SEO isn’t dead. SEO plays a major role in uplifting your content and give you a better ranking on Google. You can’t just have a successful content marketing strategy without SEO.

SEO is a major component of content marketing, and you must learn SEO basics if you want your content marketing strategy to succeed.

Your Content Should Not Be All About Selling

Great content isn’t all about selling. Balance selling your product/services with creating useful information for your customers and writing interesting stories about your industry rather than just plainly selling it.
